Trump’s War Sparks Resignation of Top Counterterrorism Official

Trump’s War Sparks Resignation of Top Counterterrorism Official
  • 11 minutes
Trump official has now resigned due to his protest of the Iran war. This is the first major Trump appointee who has done so, at least done so publicly. [00:00:15] Joe Kent Joe Kent, a long time Maga ally and the director of the National Counterterrorism Center appointed by Trump, has announced that he is resigning immediately [00:00:35] in protest of the Iran war. He is the first major Trump administration official [00:00:50] to resign over the war. Keep that picture up. Let's talk about this for a moment. You do know that many think, as he has publicly proclaimed, many in the [00:01:10] administration have similar sentiments. They may not have similar integrity. To step down and resign and publicly acknowledge the very reason for their resignation. But he's not the only one. It's my point. [00:01:25] Maybe he's the first domino. Sometimes people need a leader. Maybe he's the first domino. Maybe he's the first individual who empowers the next individual to simply do the right thing. [00:01:41] Because what good is it to have access? To power, but utilize it in a way that is adverse to your own values? Isn't the idea to have access to power [00:01:58] in order to express your values and help the people that you actually care for. Isn't that the reason not to do something opposite? Dear brother, what are your thoughts on this? I'll go to the next one. [00:02:16] I think, Kent, you know, it is a moment of integrity. I think. I know he has far right, connections to extremist groups. And that is definitely a valid criticism of him. At the same time, I think it speaks to just how extreme this situation is [00:02:34] that a tried and true believer like this gentleman finally found his line in the sand and is making it known publicly. My personal hope is that this will allow others in that camp that are in that deep Maga, sort of brain rot, domain that they can maybe find a way out. [00:02:52] Like he can be a domino, at least symbolically, he can be someone that people go, okay, well, if he if he does it, maybe I can do it. I can't stand up against I can't remember that actually. They ran on no wars. And I can actually stand to my principles rather than just follow in line like a lot [00:03:08] of other people are doing right now. So that's my hope here. I don't think this guy is a saint, but I think that when people have moments of integrity, it should be celebrated. Man, I agree with you and put up his his his tweet. I'm going to explain what this reminds me of. [00:03:27] But this preface to his letter, he tweeted after much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. [00:03:45] I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. [00:04:01] I wonder who that is. It has been an honor serving under POTUS. And Gabbard, director of National intelligence and leading the professionals at n c T.C. [00:04:22] May God bless America once again. He's not simply a Republican. He's not simply a conservative. He is Maga, okay? He's Maga. [00:04:39] This is Maga saying this. Why? Because Maga said this when they voted Trump in. Not to get involved in the affairs of other nations. In his resignation letter, he says, I support the values. [00:04:58] I support the values and the foreign policies that you campaigned on. Let me read that first sentence again. He said, I support the values and the foreign policies that you [00:05:13] campaigned on in 2016, 2020, 2024, which you enacted in your first term until June of 2025. You understood that the wars in the Middle East were a trap that robbed America [00:05:34] of the precious lives of our patriots and depleted the wealth and prosperity of our nation. Early in this administration, high ranking Israeli officials and influential members of the American media [00:05:51] deployed a misinformation campaign that wholly undermined your America First platform and sold pro-war sentiments to encourage a war in Iran. This echo chamber was used to deceive you into believing that Iran posed [00:06:09] an imminent threat to the United States, and that you should strike now. There was a clear path to a swift victory. This was a lie. And it's the same tactic the Israelis used to draw us into the disastrous Iraq war [00:06:28] that cost our nation the lives of thousands and our best men and women. We cannot make this mistake again. He was a Trump loyalist. He was a Trump loyalist. And while I echo the sentiment [00:06:45] that he is no saint, that he is, no hero. I will say this. I remember years ago doing talk radio for Atlanta. I get a call from Dothan, Alabama. Dothan, Alabama. [00:07:04] They're having some issues with the local authorities, with the Da and a few other people. It seems extreme and a lot of racism is there. So I decided to go to Dothan, Alabama. I took a small team to Dothan. Reverend Al Sharpton's brother Kenny met me in Dothan, Alabama, [00:07:23] and after we did our press conference, a white guy comes to me, provides a tape. Everybody said, don't talk to him. He's part of that other group. I spoke to him. He hands me a tape with tears in his eyes. [00:07:45] He has a recording of a judge and a prosecutor agreeing to railroad a defendant made the defendant leave the courtroom. [00:08:01] He's a reporter, but he's down with them, so he's still recording. I said to him. You're a good man. He says, no, I'm not. He says, I'm a bad man, doc. I said, you're a good man today. [00:08:22] You're a good man today. Kent is leaving. A crucial role at an organization [00:08:38] tasked with monitoring intelligence associated with long existing Terrorist organizations in the Middle East, as well as drug cartels and international gang. But he's leaving. While he may not be a good man, he's a good man today. [00:08:57] And I say that for anyone who's in a similar position, you may believe you're not a good person. You can be a good person today. Kent was has extensive experience in counter-terrorism, [00:09:13] actually was very qualified for the job, ironically, and the military. He served 11 combat tours over 20 year career in the Army before retiring and becoming a CIA officer. You're talking about a plethora of qualifications. He has them and has personal experience as a Gold Star spouse. His first wife, Shannon, was killed in a 2019 suicide bombing in Syria [00:09:33] while serving as a Navy cryptologist. The war in Iran is so unpopular, even the Oath Keepers founder, the Oath Keepers founder, Hey, K.K. Adjacent, the Oath Keepers founder. Put em Up is no longer Maga. [00:09:52] No longer Maga. Despite the fact that he is headed to Mar a Lago on Friday to ask Trump for a pardon for committing seditious conspiracy in the January 6th attack. Here it is. [00:10:08] We can't shut our eyes to the obvious role of the influence of Zionism in our government, of the Israeli intelligence services, Mossad and others in our government and through AIPAC, the control of American politicians. [00:10:23] So that's why I no longer call myself Maga. I am an America only patriot. I'm a Christian nationalist, an American Christian nationalist. And so I have to, you know, open my eyes to the reality in front of my face. And it's caused a division inside of Maga. [00:10:39] It's caused a division on the political right, but so be it. We can't shut our eyes to the truth in front of us. All right, there you have it. Dear brother. Thoughts? I mean, my first thought is it reminds me of an onion meme that says tragic worst [00:10:57] person, you know, just made a great point. So that's what was, coursing through my veins when I saw that clip. He had me. At least I'm not going to lie in the first half. It's that second half with the whole, you know, doubling down on Christian nationalism that I think is equally, [00:11:14] if not more dangerous than the threats he's bringing up regarding AIPAC and, and Israel. So I think we have kind of two problems going on here. And both of them need to be looked at soberly and quickly because their influence, I don't think, can be overstated. [00:11:31] Yeah. Well said. I'm going to say this one cult deprogramming at a time. All right. Okay.
